In my opinion, the Black Mountain beats the PG&E trail because there's so much more to see along the way. Black Mountain offers a variety of trails and dirt roads that travel through dense chaparral covered canyons, native grasslands and riparian areas. I then turned back, went down the mountain the way I came, but then continued along the dual trails up Letterrock Mountain, which is the next mountain over. The Black Mountain Crest Trail is very well maintained. The top of the mountain is tinted black. There is a lot of commercial businesses (with no parking signs), and a church though, so there has to be something that can be found by a trail hiker.
